Formats - a quick guide

To ensure you receive the correct format of digital file use this quick guide.

There are numerous file formats available but, to keep things simple, these are the 3 main formats in which we supply our mapping data:

JPEG For internet use only, where the only modifications you can do are to add your own information over the top of the map (for instance, hotel locations and names). These files are saved as 72 ppi resolution JPEGs.

PhotoShop EPS This is an uneditable file saved from PhotoShop. The file has been rasterised in PhotoShop at a resolution of 400 ppi making it suitable for high quality printing (i.e. litho printing). Being rasterised, there are no font compatibility problems. Some applications may only show a low resolution preview of the file on screen while the file will print at high resolution.

Freehand or Illustrator files These are the fully layered files, possibly containing 100 or more layers and styles. These files will allow you to change the colours, add or delete detail, resize or extend the mapping. You will need suitable software to access these files (usually Freehand or Illustrator although other applications may read them too, with varying degrees of success). We would normally convert fonts to paths in the Freehand or Illustrator files to prevent compatibilty problems across systems.

If you require files in a different format (e.g. pdf, gif, tiff etc) please contact us.

We can supply digital data via email or on CD. Some files may be quite large in size and you should ensure that your email provider will allow large attachments to files if you choose this method.
