Royalty free mapping - UK towns & cities

For UK towns and cities we can create royalty or copyright free mapping - mapping that is not derived, licensed or copied off other copyright sources.

This type of map is produced using aerial photography to interpret buildings shapes and road alignments and then on-the-ground surveys to obtain street names etc.

Step 1
Current aerial photography of the area is obtained. This is either specially flown or is purchased with mapping rights.

Photography is usually in colour and is brought into our graphics systems at a resolution suitable for photo interpretation (usually around 1200 ppi).

Step 2
Interpretation of the information on the photograph takes place on screen where we can zoom in or out depending on the magnification required.

At this stage we mark up all the roads, buildings, parks, rivers, lakes etc. The linework is captured in either Freehand or Illustrator with each category on a separate layer.

Step 3
Following the interpretation of the photography and the capture digitally of all the linework our cartographers will head out onto the streets armed with a printout of the linework, pens, paper, digital camera and GPS receiver to mark up all the road names, numbers, building names and anything else that could not be taken from the aerial photography.

Step 4
Back in the office the names and other detail found during the street survey are added to the map and a basic specification is given to the map.

Step 5
Finally, after exhaustive checking, the map is put into the customer's own design specification and the mapping can be supplied digitally.

All our maps are fully structured with layers and styles to make for ease of updating and design changes.

Digital data can be supplied as eps, pdf, tiff, jpeg and other formats depending on the final use of the map.

Aerial photography, street survey notes and map files are archived and can be produced should any query arise in the future.
